So for our wonderful wedding website (http://www.phillip-ashley.com/) Phillip gave his perspective of proposing to me. I figured I'd post it because it was too cute... Feel free to check out our website too when you get the chance. :)
[PHILLIP’S PERSPECTIVE]
"How did it happen?", you may ask. Well, it was pretty simple. I said, "will you marry me?", and she said "yes". But I knew if I did it in the apartment, or in a parking lot, or something like that, it would not go over too well. Soooo... here's what I did:
Pre-engaged
When I get the mindset that something is going to happen, well, it is GOING to HAPPEN. I decided it was time. Everything was right. I talked to my parents for a few days about it, and we started looking for the perfect ring. We went to five or six different stores before we ended up going to Robbins Bros. And there it was! By now you've seen it, so I need not describe it to you. We had to get the extra diamond (her great-grandmother's) a special spot on the side of the ring because it isn't smart to replace one of the main three on top. So, we bought it. They had to keep it until the day of, because of the work they had to do in the ring.
The plan was pretty simple:
Go to a nice restaurant (ü).
Get a cool hotel room (ü).
Get engaged (ü).
We went to eat at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. We got a great table on the top floor (since that's where the restaurant is) and got to watch the storm do its thing over Dallas. It was pretty sweet. We ordered our food, I got a steak and Ash got some fish and lamb ribs (ew). Since it was a nice restaurant there was some other stuff included, like a free tasty treat at the beginning which wasn't so tasty, and Ash had an appetizer of some sort as well. We finished up and left and started our adventure into Dallas.
I reserved a cool suite in a hotel across the street from SMU. I think it was called Hotel Lumen. It had a nice wrap-around balcony, which gave me the idea of proposing while taking a picture. So, we got to the hotel and went out onto the balcony to take the picture. I tested it a few times since I wanted it to be good. Ends up the picture quality wasn't even that great. It was really stinkin' humid! During the last picture, I got on one knee and popped the question.
Engaged
She said.............. "oh my gosh" instead of "yes". So, after a few VERY WORRISOME (not really) seconds, she gave the correct answer, which of course, was "yes".
Now, if you want some hardcore details, read Ashley's version. "Deets" aren't my style. But in the end, I would say the night was a great success. I came away with the girl in my dreams.... I mean OF my dreams.
:-)
P.S. This was all a surprise and she was quite clueless the whole time.
