Madison was put to sleep this morning. Yes. That wonderful, adorable, lovable, perfect member of our family is in a better place. After 16 great years in our home, it was her time to go to kitty heaven.
What a great cat. A great companion. So patient. A cat that could convince a German Shepherd and nosey "little kitty" that she was always in command. A cat that made sure the most food-possesive dog in this world knew to leave her alone when she suddenly decided she'd rather eat dog food. My mom's favorite child. A daddy's girl. The cat that truly made you think deep down inside, that she was really a dog.
I miss you, big kitty. It was a great 16 years. You will never be replaced. Bailey is still looking for you. When she figures this out, she'll be just as devastated as the rest of us.

Celebrating an Engagement
Tonight we celebrate Tiffany and Adrian's engagement with a party. My whole family is really looking forward to it. It's time for us to start this wedding season off in style. :)
Tiffany and Adrian are really special to our family and we are so happy they're getting married in July. It's a perfect time for them and I hope they can enjoy every second of this time.

It’s Been Too Long
So sorry, readers. I have been slacking and I truly appologize.
Nothing new has really been going on. But I’ll give all of you a rundown just in case…
Work has been crazy and fun. I love my job so much! It’s kept me very busy and I’m really getting into a groove. Last week was my first week to travel and do a screening out “in the field”. I loved it and think I’m really cut out for this. So that’s a nice feeling. It’s all coming together and I feel like I’m really making a difference in kids’ lives.
My whole family is going to Cabo in July too! We made it work and we are too excited. A huge family vacation to see Tiffany and Adrian get married. How could we possibly have a better trip planned!?
Phillip is considering graduate school again. He’s thought of it before but he’s thinking about it again. Between working at CVS, thinking about his school options, and job hunting, he’s been pretty busy too. Basically we’re busy all the time.

Quick Update
Sorry I haven't updated in a whole. Work has really taken off and I'm loving it! So much to learn and so much to think about. Great things on the horizon.
We're getting ready to put money down on the Cabo trip (yay)!! Looks like the whole family will be able to go. :)
Phillip is still job hunting like crazy. I'm hoping he at least gets an interview in the coming weeks. Knowing he is happy employed full time would be nice - oh and also knowing where to rental house hunt would be beneficial for my forward-thinking mind.
That's the quick rundown. Everything else is relatively the same. Hopefully I'll get to give you a lengthy update soon.

First Day
Today was the first day at my new job! How exciting!! I knew I'd be starting sometime this week, but when the phone rang this morning, I was so pleased to have a boss as excited to have me on board as I am to be a part of the team. It was a great first day!
Kind of monotonous with video tutorials online and trying to navigate their sales website, but I think I'll get the hang of it soon. So many school districts and so many contacts. I feel like the state is at my fingertips and I just need to get in there and make them want these screenings.
Piece of cake, right? Well. I'll let you know when I start establishing connections of the next several weeks and months.
But all-in-all a great first day. :)

Happy New Year!
Well besides the events of today with Murphy, we had a pretty good new year.
Last night for dinner, we went to "Next" which is a wood fired bistro and wine bar. We had been once before and were pretty impressed so we couldn't pass it up when we saw how reasonably priced their four-course meals for the holiday were.
I had crab cakes for the first course (plus Phillip's since he didn't care for them), lobster bisque for the second course (plus some of Phillip's cranberry pecan salad because, again, he didn't care for it), baked atlantic salmon with a burr blanc sauce served with masked potatoes and cooked shredded carrots (Phillip had a New York strip steak in a peppercorn wine syrup and topped with fontina cheese, garlic, and breadcrumbs - also served with the potatoes and carrots), and creme brule for the fourth and final course. All of this was shared with a bottle of wine between the two of us. It was a wonderful meal!
The night concluded with ringing in the new year with Phillip's parents and some family friends. Of course, the traditional New Year's ball made its annual appearance.
What a great first New Year's Eve celebration as a wife. I can't believe we're embarking on a new year. 2011 was so busy and it'll be fun to see how 2012 compares.

Our Poor Puppy Dog
This afternoon we had to take Murphy to the emergency animal hospital. It was quite the event today. Here's the run down:
He was acting really strange this afternoon. He was hyper salivating (aka drooling a lot), lethargic, and was having really labored breathing. He also just stood in the middle of the floor almost motionless a few times for long durations. When he did finally move from one place to another, he tucked his ears back and had his tail between his legs. We knew something was wrong, but couldn't figure out what. Usually with lethargy, vets suspect a blockage in the digestive tract (like he swallowed something bad), but his eating/bathroom habits remained the same as always. We called the emergency vet and they told us to bring him in.
We were there for 2 hours for the exam and figuring out what to do next. All his vitals were normal and lungs were clear. No blockage was felt either. However, his pupils were reacting strangely to light, and the vet felt he was acting odd for a border collie his age. She seemed to think the only solution would be that he either got ahold of some sort of medication or toxic product (though we can't imagine what it could have been since we watch him like a hawk and keep him out of the rooms that contain those items) or that he was possibly having an allergic reaction to an insect sting. Another slight possibility is that when he was standing for long periods of time, that he was having a quiet seizure - though she did mention that his other symptoms didn't line up with characteristics of seizures.
To play it safe, we decided to have him admitted over night for observation. He was given fluids and a charcoal mixture as well, to try to get his system to pass anything foreign he might have ingested. We've called twice so far since dropping him off, and they seem to think he's doing well. We pick him up tomorrow morning and go from there.
It's pretty quiet around the house without him. As much as he gets underfoot and as much of a handful as he is, he keeps things interesting. He really had us worried this afternoon, but we're confident he's in good hands. I'll let you know any updates if there are any. Hopefully it just needed to pass through his system.
