Winning or Losing?

It's taken me a bit to write this post. I don't really know where to begin.

Last week my beloved grandmother passed away due to complications associated with lung cancer.

Someone put the cause as "losing the battle with cancer." A battle in which someone wins and someone loses? Huh. Not sure how I feel about that one.

I'm not sure there is ever a winner with cancer. And I'm not sure someone who can finally escape the pain of this world and live with their creator in heaven is considered a loser. Linda didn't win. And she certainly didn't lose. She's just gone.

She's gone and we're left here to remember her until we see her again. Holding on to the memories... that's the tough part. Remembering the smells and feelings but struggling to remember every detail of her face. The pain in never being able to remember everything but never being able to forget other things.

Loss.
